Teversal vs Gedling MW, Saturday 2 April -- Match report

Mick Booth

Special thanks to Mick Booth for writing the following match report.

Gedling MW were meeting Teversal for the third time this season and were looking to register their first win against a side who are in the top six alongside Gedling MW. The pitch was perfect and the sun was shining as Teversal kicked off and Walker made progress down the right and put in a good cross but Curtis was there to head the ball away to safety. Walker again put a cross in from the right to Clarke but his shot went over the bar. Teversal were the better side in the opening exchanges and Irwin did well to break up a Teversal attack. Gedling were giving the ball away too easily and it proved costly when Curtis made a poor pass and Teversal broke in numbers. Clarke went down the line and crossed for WALKER who made no mistake in putting the ball past Bodkin to give Teversal a 0-1 lead on 10 mins. Hogg went on a run down the right but it came to nothing as Teversal cleared the ball upfield. Wright then gave the ball away to Williams who ran through and pulled out a good save from Bodkin. Clarke then made progress down the left and put a good cross in but Bodkin won the challenge with Walker.

Gedling went close from a free kick when Wright flicked the ball back into the box for Epps who's header went just over the bar. Teversal went back on the attack and Ball did well to head the ball away to McCaughey who moved into the Teversal half and shot just wide from outside the penalty area. Smith then went on a good run down the right and crossed for Bull who put his shot wide. Cockerill then put a cross over that was headed clear by Wright. Gedling seemed very lethargic and continued to give the ball away too easily as Teversal got the better of the play. Smith went down the right and put a dangerous ball into the Teversal box that was put out for a throw in. The throw went to Bull who pulled a good save out of Parker. Hogg went on a good run and his shot was deflected for a corner but McCaughey put the corner kick out of play. Teversal got a corner and Williams's kick was met by ROE who put a free header into the net to make it 0-2 on 38 mins. Epps had a chance just before half time but Parker got down well to save. HT 0-2

McGinty came on for Oak and his long throw was met by Wright whose header was held by Parker and then Irwin won his battle with Cockerill at the expense of a corner which Bodkin got up to take. Bodkin then came out to make a good save from Williams and then Hudson shot wide from outside the box. McCaughey then gave the ball away and it took some good work by Ball and Wright to clear the danger. Hogg got a good cross in to Epps but his shot went into the side netting. Gedling got a corner and McGintys shot was palmed out to Bull who shot weakly into the arms of Parmer. Wright was unlucky to see his bullet header kicked off the line by Cockerill and Bull put the rebound wide. It was a good chance wasted and then Ball managed to get a foot in to stop a Teversal attack. After a good Easter Gedling were poor today and it's so frustrating because they could possibly have gone fourth from top. Bodkin and the back three played ok but Gedling missed the suspended Boomer and Hudson against a decent Teversal side. FT 0-2
